Why rooftop geometry, anchors and moving loads must be assessed before adding motors.
A moving structure changes load paths
The existing frame, clamps and rails were selected for a fixed installation. Moving modules changes the load cases applied to joints, bearings, supports and roof anchors.
Wind loading
Wind pressure and uplift vary with exposure, roof height, local conditions and panel tilt. Worst-case operating and stow positions should be assessed by a qualified structural engineer.
Documentation
An assessment records panel dimensions, number of modules, support spacing, material sections, anchor details and relevant loads. It should identify uncertainties that need field measurement.
Safety provisions
Appropriate stops, mechanical restraints and safe parking behavior should be specified before procurement or installation.
Educational information only. The suitability and safety of a retrofit depend on a site-specific engineering review.
